The Great Exchange: My Sin for His Righteousness
By Jerry Bridges, Bob Bevington
see relatedLong time, no post
It has indeed been a long time since I have posted. I have finished my two years at Hazelwood SE Middle School and am looking for a new position. I got into a car accident a week ago yesterday and so my car was totalled.
I have decided that if a church isn't preaching Christ and Him crucified for my sins...not just for the nonbeliever, but for the believer as well...then they are not doing their job. Call me closed-minded or whatever else you want to. Most likely, you're simply reacting against my decisiveness, not actually disagreeing with my position. If this is so, then rethink it before you go there. What I mean is this: the variety of the message comes from the passage from which we speak (or preach), not the content of the message. Our mandate is to preach repentance for sin and the forgiveness of sins in Christ (see Luke 24:47 in context) and if we're busy telling people that they can use Jesus to get a better anything (life, car, whatever) or tell them that their works are the foundation on the rock in Matthew 7...then we are not preaching the Christian gospel.
I'm not talking about giving an invitation, folks. I'm talking about the good news that Christ died for the sins I commit every day. Every. Sunday. I'm talking about the good news that Christ lived a perfect life and that HIS perfect life (ie, righteousness) clothes me as my own, though it is not mine apart from Him. If you're attending a church that preaches anything besides this...every Sunday...insist upon it and if you don't get it, shake the dust from your feet.
I've been hanging out with my friend Tyler a lot. We've had a historical summer so far...that is, we've watched Troy and Alexander, as well as Tristan and Isolde just in the last week. Great movies. I think Sweeny Todd is on the docket soon.
Oh yeah...we also watched Dr. Horrible's Singalong Blog and Down With Love. And the live MIKA concert DVD was fun, too.
I've been listening to Chris Rosebrough on his Fighting For the Faith podcast on his radio station. Check it out. Warning: this podcast may make you supremely dissatisfied with the preaching at your church.
And finally, I laid out in the sun today at Tyler's pool. It was awesome. I feel great! A little tired now, but great.

If all we're talking about is the fact that Christ died for the sins we commit every day, what do you see as the motivation for a Christian to attempt to live a sinless life?
Amen.
